In German language it is not clear from where the word GLÜCK (“good luck, happiness, fortune, bliss“) came to exist. I guess there must be a relation between German GLÜCK and LÜCKE, alike as regards content the riming English expressions HAP and GAP.

One meaning is the German GLÜCK came from the potters’ language having to do with the lid fitting on a pot without having a gap between the cover and its body beneath. That’s why I am thinking of a closed gap being a reason to be thankful to “hap“. Maybe that’s only a pun,
